New Jersey Dealer Urges Drivers to Clean Off the Snow

How many times have you driven around the streets in New Jersey and noticed cars around you covered in snow? If you’re like me, you’ve seen it many times and you’ve probably wondered how they can drive like that.

Now, your New Jersey dealer wants to bring your attention to a new bill in the state legislature that will require those drivers to clean the snow off their vehicles before driving on the roads. On Monday, the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee unanimously passed a bill that would allow police to pull drivers over if there is too much snow on their vehicles. The bill has a couple more steps to go before it is enacted, but there is a great deal of support for it.

Currently, drivers cannot receive a ticket simply for having too much snow on their vehicle. If, however, that snow falls off and causes injury or damage, the drivers may be fined between $200 and $1,500 depending on the type of vehicle and the circumstances. The new bill would impose fines between $25 and $75 with no points on the driver’s license if there is too much snow on the car.

If you’re driving a new car from your Marlton area Chevrolet dealer, wouldn’t you want to clean it off for everybody to see anyway? Besides, it’s just safer to clean all the snow off your car before you driver it.

Chevrolet Dealership Discusses New Ignition Lock Bill

Your New Jersey Chevrolet dealership would like to discuss the new bill making its way through the state legislature that involves the driver ignition lock for drunk drivers. If you haven’t heard about this, here are some things you should know:

• If the law is passed, it would require drivers who have been convicted of drunken driving to have an ignition lock installed on their vehicle. If the lock senses that the person has been drinking alcohol, the ignition won’t turn and the car won’t start.
• Eight states already have laws allowing ignition locks on vehicles if the owners have been convicted of driving drunk.
• The proposal extends to first-time offenders in New Jersey whose blood-alcohol content is .15 or higher, which is almost double the state’s legal limit.
• The new legislation gives New Jersey judges the leeway to order the ignition locks for first-time offenders who register a blood-alcohol level between .08 and .15. It also gives them more freedom in determining how long the lock stays on.
• This legislation is less strict than previous legislation that would have included all New Jersey drivers convicted of drinking and driving regardless of their blood-alcohol level.

Don’t mess around with alcohol and driving and have one of these ignition locks forced on your new car from your Delran area Chevrolet dealer. If you’re going to drive, stay away from the alcohol so we can all stay safe on the roads. It’s the right thing to do.

Chevy Dealerships Warn about Lightning Strikes

Motorists have already been blamed for global warming because they drive their cars around so much, but are they being blamed for lightning strikes now, too? Your New Jersey Chevy dealerships want to bring your attention to an article which makes this claim.

A recent study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem showed that there were 25 percent more lightning strikes during the work week than on the weekend between 1998 and 2008 in the southeastern United States. The researchers also used data from NASA that showed rainfall in the same region was greater during the week than on the weekend.

The study blamed the increased rainfall and lightning strikes on automobile pollution. The researchers say that pollution contributes to more humidity which causes more clouds to rise. This creates more lightning strikes. Of course, the article didn’t mention anything about how there are five days during a regular week and only two days on the weekend. There wasn’t anything about previous years, either. Only studying a ten-year block doesn’t seem all-inclusive to me.

Don’t let studies like this keep you away from your Berlin area Chevrolet dealer. Many researchers are simply trying to further an agenda by using fear and scare tactics to keep people away from driving cars. It’s not working with me. Is it working with you?

New Jersey Dealer Warns against Deadly Driving Mistakes

We’re almost through winter, but that doesn’t mean you should let up on using your winter driving skills. Your New Jersey dealer wants to warn you against making these winter driving mistakes in the next couple months so we can make it safely through until the beauty of spring arrives.

1. Too Little Tread – We may only have two months to go for winter driving, but if your tires are going bald, get new ones today. Tires with insufficient tread lead to many accidents. Don’t put it off because an accident could happen today!
2. Poor Visibility – Don’t think you can clear off a little circle on your windshield and make it safely where you need to go. Take the time to scrape off the entire windshield and other windows on your car before you move out of your driveway. Also, clean off your headlights and taillights so other drivers can see you as well.

3. Driving Fast – You never know when you’re going to hit a patch of ice or need to slam on your brakes. Make sure you slow it down so you can make appropriate adjustments when needed.

Chevrolet Dealership Offers Defensive Driving Tips

At your local Chevrolet dealership, we know it’s tough out there on the roads. Thousands of deaths occur each year as the result of traffic accidents caused by careless driving. That’s why we want to offer some defensive driving tips to help you stay safe.

Yield When You Don’t Have To
How many times have you sat at an intersection with a four-way stop and sat there waiting for the guy on your right to go? It’s happened several times to me. Yielding, however, is much safer than thinking you have the right to go and risking a collision. If you’re not sure who has the right of way, just give it to the other driver. You’ll avoid a lot of trouble that way.

Don’t Trust Other Drivers
You might think you know what the other driver is going to do, but we all know that nobody drives as good as we do. Don’t assume the “other guy” is going to follow the traffic law or even common sense. Take your safety into your own hands and look out for the other drivers so you can stay safe.

These are just two defensive driving techniques from your Chevrolet dealership that you can employ each day. Once you have mastered these safer habits, you may feel more comfortable in a new car from your Marlton area Chevrolet dealer. Check one out today!

New Jersey Dealer Warns against Drowsy Driving

Drowsy driving is one of the leading causes of traffic-related deaths in the United States. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that fatigue causes about 100,000 vehicle crashes each year and kills 1,500 annually. Unfortunately, that’s just the ones that get reported. And contrary to popular belief, less than one percent of fatigue-related accidents involve truck drivers.

One law in New Jersey – Maggie’s Law – allows law enforcement to penalize drivers for reckless driving if they deem the driver was too tired to be driving. If they are involved in an accident that kills another driver, they can also be convicted of vehicular homicide and serve jail time as well. Currently, New Jersey is the only state in the nation with such a law.

Here are some tips from your Marlton area Chevrolet dealer so you don’t end up hurting someone from being a drowsy driver:

1. Get plenty of sleep the night before a long trip.
2. Take someone with you on long trips. Conversation will help keep you awake.
3. Do not work all day and then drive all night.
4. Know your body. If you get tired around mid-afternoon, use that time to pull over and take a brisk walk or do something else to wake yourself up.
5. Use common sense. If you are getting tired, pull over for the night.

Your local New Jersey dealer wants to encourage you to be alert when you’re behind the wheel. Use these tips to help you and other drivers to stay safe.

Chevrolet Dealership Agrees that “Less Is More” for 2009 NAIAS

It’s no secret that the economy is struggling and the automakers are going through some rough times. But that’s no reason to postpone or cancel this year’s North American International Auto Show. That’s the feeling that the domestic automakers have this year. They have just decided to tone down their displays for the 2009 NAIAS. Your NJ Chevrolet dealership agrees with the “less is more” attitude considering the current climate.

Some of the theatrics that Chevrolet and GM have sacrificed for a “less is more” appearance this week include “floor risers, live music and other big-ticket items for its typically souped up 100,000-square foot display.” Instead, officials decided to go with a simpler appearance with less fanfare and a stronger focus on the products that are being unveiled. But that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to grab the public’s attention.

Jennifer Granholm, Michigan’s current governor, attended the event and spent a great deal of time at the GM display. She marched around the Chevrolet Volt and held a sign that said, “Here to stay.” In addition to that, Detroit Tigers announcer Mario Impemba talked about the cars as if he were calling a game in the World Series, causing people to look and take notice.

While you can experience the future of the auto industry at the NAIAS, your Lumberton area Chevrolet dealer wants you to check out the present technology and features. Visit a local Chevy dealer today and see what you can start driving today!

Chevy Dealerships Warn about Distracted Driving

Your Chevy dealerships want to warn you that it’s dangerous to text while driving. Do they really need to do a study that proves texting while driving leads to more accidents, injuries and fatalities behind the wheel? I would think that is common sense, but the Transportation Research Institute at Kansas University wants to prove it and offer numbers to people to discourage them from driving while distracted.

“Intuitively,” said Bob Honea, the director of the organization, “we all know it.” He plans to find solid evidence that texting is dangerous behind the wheel so officials can “lay the groundwork for doing something about it.”

Honea says the first step to proving the dangers of texting while driving is for police officers to keep track of instances in which the driver was using a cell phone just prior to an accident. It’s not important whether or not the cell phone distraction actually “caused” the accident, but just knowing if the driver was using a cell phone is helpful information.

Take this advice from your Lumberton area Chevrolet dealer: Don’t drive while you’re distracted. Whether you are texting, talking on your cell phone or trying to shave while driving, you have a responsibility to other drivers to give your full attention to the road and your surroundings.

New Jersey Dealer Offers More Gas-Saving Tips

With gas prices slowly creeping back up, your New Jersey dealer wanted to get a jump on everybody else in reporting gas-saving tips. Right now, the prices are increasing ever so slightly and you may not have even noticed them. But chances are they will continue to go back up with the problems in the Middle East and other factors involved. Here are some tips from your New Jersey dealer to help you squeeze the most out of each gallon of fuel.

1. Accelerate smoothly. Few driving habits guzzle as much fuel as taking off quickly from a complete stop. While you’re at it, brake smoothly, too.
2. Maintain your vehicle. Keeping your car in tip-top shape will keep your car running efficiently. Check your owner’s manual for scheduled maintenance procedures for optimum performance.
3. Roll up your windows at high speeds. This probably isn’t much of an issue in the dead of winter, but open windows at speeds greater than 55 mph create a drag on your vehicle and reduce your fuel economy.

These are just a few tips from your New Jersey dealer to help you save money on gas. You can also visit your Berlin area Chevrolet dealer and get a new hybrid version of your favorite model for even more gas savings. Check one out today!
