Chevrolet Dealership Discusses New Ignition Lock Bill

Your New Jersey Chevrolet dealership would like to discuss the new bill making its way through the state legislature that involves the driver ignition lock for drunk drivers. If you haven’t heard about this, here are some things you should know:

• If the law is passed, it would require drivers who have been convicted of drunken driving to have an ignition lock installed on their vehicle. If the lock senses that the person has been drinking alcohol, the ignition won’t turn and the car won’t start.
• Eight states already have laws allowing ignition locks on vehicles if the owners have been convicted of driving drunk.
• The proposal extends to first-time offenders in New Jersey whose blood-alcohol content is .15 or higher, which is almost double the state’s legal limit.
• The new legislation gives New Jersey judges the leeway to order the ignition locks for first-time offenders who register a blood-alcohol level between .08 and .15. It also gives them more freedom in determining how long the lock stays on.
• This legislation is less strict than previous legislation that would have included all New Jersey drivers convicted of drinking and driving regardless of their blood-alcohol level.

Don’t mess around with alcohol and driving and have one of these ignition locks forced on your new car from your Delran area Chevrolet dealer. If you’re going to drive, stay away from the alcohol so we can all stay safe on the roads. It’s the right thing to do.
