Chevrolet has found a new way to promote its Aveo5, and to try to bring younger customers into their Chevy dealerships. They’re using the power of Internet viral marketing.
Chevrolet is offering up to 10 free rides each day for students at six different colleges. The ride takes place in a Chevy Aveo5 hatchback. Chevy will be filming the experience.
Chevy is encouraging these college students to make their video interesting and worth watching. Within 24 hours of their ride, the video will be posted to a special website. From there, students are able to watch the footage, send it to friends and relatives, and place it on blogs or social networking sites such as Facebook.
From each campus, one student will be a finalist. The student whose video gets the most views within one week of the video being posted will qualify as a finalist. These six students’ videos will then be put up for online voting in November. Whichever student has the video with the most votes will win a 2009 Chevy Aveo5.
According to Ed Peper, the Vice President of GM who is in charge of Chevrolet in North America, the Aveo is especially suited to college students. The car gets 34 miles per gallon on the highway, and the starting price is under $13,000.
