The fact of the matter is that, unless you’ve just bought a car from your Chevy dealership, the brakes on your car are probably wearing down. It’s a fact of life; brakes aren’t meant to last forever.
However, if you’re aware of the issue and deal with it as soon as it comes up, you probably won’t need to spend much money on brake repairs. If you pay close attention, you should only have to replace your break pads, rather than having expensive repairs.
Here are some ways to tell when your brakes may need to be replaced:
- You hear a high-pitched squeal when you brake. This sound usually indicates that the pads have worn down and become thin, and that it’s time for new pads.
- Your brake light comes on. When those pads wear down, there is a metal tab on most brakes that will connect with the metal on the brakes. This closes a circuit, and sends a signal to your Chevrolet’s warning light that there’s a problem with your brakes.
- If you’re leaking brake fluid, it can be a sign that there is a problem with your brake system. As with all fluid leaks, it’s best to have your car serviced immediately when this happens.
You should also have your brake calipers and rotors checked regularly. Check your brake fluid monthly to make sure you’re not leaking brake fluid.
