Chevy Dealerships Warn about Distracted Driving

Your Chevy dealerships want to warn you that it’s dangerous to text while driving. Do they really need to do a study that proves texting while driving leads to more accidents, injuries and fatalities behind the wheel? I would think that is common sense, but the Transportation Research Institute at Kansas University wants to prove it and offer numbers to people to discourage them from driving while distracted.

“Intuitively,” said Bob Honea, the director of the organization, “we all know it.” He plans to find solid evidence that texting is dangerous behind the wheel so officials can “lay the groundwork for doing something about it.”

Honea says the first step to proving the dangers of texting while driving is for police officers to keep track of instances in which the driver was using a cell phone just prior to an accident. It’s not important whether or not the cell phone distraction actually “caused” the accident, but just knowing if the driver was using a cell phone is helpful information.

Take this advice from your Lumberton area Chevrolet dealer: Don’t drive while you’re distracted. Whether you are texting, talking on your cell phone or trying to shave while driving, you have a responsibility to other drivers to give your full attention to the road and your surroundings.
