SEAMO, the Southeast Automotive Media Organization, is comprised of the top journalists in the automotive field throughout the Southeast. SEAMO has been around for the past seven years, and has given an award each year for the Family Car of the Year. In addition to the Family Car of the Year, SEAMO also recognizes the North American Concept Vehicle of the Year.
21 different vehicles were looked at for the Family Car of the Year award. As the members did test driving and examined the vehicles, they rated the vehicles in eight separate categories. The categories included Safety, Accessibility, Capacity, Styling, Value, Ergonomics, NVH and Amenities. Each vehicle was given up to a possible 100 points.
The winner for 2009 comes as no surprise. Earning 89.5 points, the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse came out on top. The award for Family Car of the year was presented at the Charlotte Auto Show. It was accepted on behalf of Chevrolet by Tim Groves, the Zone Manager for the region.
