Nissan Automobile Dealers Affected by Gustav

If tropical storm Gustav turns into Hurricane Gustav, your Nissan automobile dealers could be affected. That’s why the automaker is making plans to prepare its assembly plant in Mississippi near the Gulf Coast, according to Fred Standish, a company spokesperson.

The nearest plant to Gustav’s path is located just over 200 miles north of New Orleans in Canton, Mississippi. That Nissan plant is the one that produces a large number of Altima sedans, but it also manufactures many minivans, SUVs and pickup trucks. This is also the same plant that was damaged during Hurricane Katrina three years ago. For nearly three days, the Canton plant was shut down. “We learned a lot from that experience and are setting up accordingly,” said a Nissan spokesperson about the current preparations for Gustav.

Some of the preparations for the Canton plant include emergency alarms to warn employees in case of approaching dangers, plans to contact local radio stations so they can inform the community of plant closings and phone numbers so employees can call and check the plant’s status. Nissan is also cleaning up any loose debris around the Canton plant for extra safety in high winds.

This doesn’t have to stop you from visiting your local Nissan dealer, though. If the weather is good where you’re at, why not consider getting a new or certified car from one of the Nissan automobile dealers near you?
